The Short Creek
History • Heritage • Water • Preservation
The Short Creek is a historical archive and preservation project documenting the people, places, landscape, water systems, and heritage of the historic Short Creek community, founded in 1910.
In the shadow of the cliffs of Tumurru, now known as Canaan Mountain, a legacy of strength, resilience, and perseverance took root. That legacy continues in the hearts, minds, and lives of those connected to this historic community.
This project explores the land, water, federal actions, and community efforts that made settlement possible, the challenges that nearly prevented it, and a history that reaches far beyond the community's formal founding.
Future collections will include historical documents, photographs, water-right records, oral histories, homestead records, maps, and research relating to the Short Creek region and its people.
